Isibindi cares for OVCs mainly from Airport valley community which is also an informal settlement in the most eastern area of Gqebera. It is one of the poorest communities in our area and they visit children from the rest of the township too. Isibindi is a nationally recognised program developed by the National Association of Child and Youth Care Workers, see

We have had a child from Mount Frere who was not able to attend school as she did not have an ID document. We have been struggling with obtaining this as her mother passed away and no one in her family seemed to know where the death certificate was. After many hours from our team, they found it and she now has her ID.

Traditional dance classes are continuing from February 2016 and the girls and boys are doing a great job.

Staff continue to assist learners in every way possible way, assisting families with budgeting their money, various teen awareness programs and ensuring the learners are registered in school and attending daily.

Our Isibindi Team was also chosen to assist in training other teams in Port Elizabeth areas as the Department of Social Development recognized that they were doing a great job in the community. I think our team learnt from them too though.

Given Mpaliso, the manager of this project was chosen as secretary of the National Association of Child and youth Care Workers (NACCW-Eastern Cape), he was also chosen as the representative of Isibindi and the child and youth care centers in the Nelson Mandela district and he also passed a Labour Law course.
